My Ex is Missing Support Payments. What Can I Do?

Child support payments are based on specific guidelines set forth by the state dictated by income and custody time.  Generally speaking the parent who does not have primary custody of the child will be required to pay the other parent monthly child support payments.  Many times, the parent with the obligation to pay feels slighted, because they are being told they need to give their ex money every month and because they don’t get to see their child as much as they would like (or as much as they feel they deserve).  Often times, these folks simply refuse to make their monthly support payments, and therefore put a financial strain on both their ex and their child.  If your ex is missing support payments, you need to contact the Domestic Relations office of the county where the support order was entered.  Here, in Bucks County, the BCDR office will take up an enforcement action against the non-compliant party, which could result in a wage attachment, tax refund interception, contempt charges, driver’s license suspension, property lien, credit bureau reporting, and many other disciplinary measures designed to ensure compliance with the support order.

If you find yourself in a situation where your ex is refusing to make support payment, contact the Domestic Relations office in the appropriate county.  If that doesn’t produce any results, contact an experienced family law attorney.
